When the Music Starts

The world is loud
until the music begins.

Then it’s just me
and the quiet between notes,
where my heart finally speaks.

I don’t dance to be seen.
I dance to feel
everything at once
and let it go in the same breath.

Each step is a sentence
my body knows how to say
better than my mouth ever could.

The floor holds my secrets.
The mirror holds my doubts.
But the music holds me
like nothing else can.

When I move,
I am softer
and stronger
at the same time.

And for a little while,
the world makes sense
because I am exactly
where I’m meant to be.
